Printing and PDF Export

Print cards or export them as a PDF when you want focused, offline study material. Printed cards are useful when you want to study away from screens, make a small set for a commute, or give yourself a paper-only review session.

You can create printable output for all cards in a folder on any platform. On Mac You can also select cards first, then print or export only the selected cards.

On Mac Open a folder and choose File -> Page Setup… to choose a print mode, adjust the number of cards per page, show or hide guide lines, show or hide folder names, and choose an answer background color. Then choose File -> Print or File -> Export -> As PDF….

The Page Setup… sheet controls print mode, cards per page, answer background, guide lines, and optional page details.

When multiple cards are selected, hover over the selected-card preview to show file proxy icons. Drag the PDF icon to the Desktop, Finder, or another app to create a PDF with those cards. The PDF uses the settings previously saved in Page Setup.

On Mac, selected cards reveal file proxy icons that can be dragged to create a PDF or archive.

On iPhone & iPad Open a folder, tap the Export button, and choose As PDF…. To print, share or open the PDF and use the system print option.

1-Sided Mode

Use 1-Sided mode when you want questions and answers on the same side of each page. This is good for studying without cutting and folding the page.

Each card pair is printed together, with the question and answer on the same side. To study, cover the answers with transparent paper, translucent paper, or another sheet of paper, then reveal them as you go.

Two backgrounds — dark red and dark green — are designed to work with colored transparent paper as a low-tech way to hide the answer text while you quiz yourself. Place a sheet of green transparent cellophane or acetate over the dark red background to make the answer disappear. Use red transparent paper over the dark green background. Colored cellophane or acetate sheets are available at most craft stores.

It is okay to print 1-Sided mode on both sides of the paper. In this mode, "1-sided" means each question and answer pair is on the same side, not that your printer must use only one side of the paper.

2-Sided Mode

Use 2-Sided mode when you want to cut cards out and flip them like paper flashcards.

Questions print on one page and answers print on the back page. This mode is meant to be printed on both sides of the page. If you print it on only one side, the questions and answers will not line up as usable flashcards.

Turn on Show Guide Lines if you want dotted lines that show where to cut.

Zine Mode

Use Zine mode to carry your 4 most important questions with you offline.

Each page contains 4 cards arranged as a small foldable booklet. Print the page, fold it, cut the center slit, and fold it into a pocket-size zine. Learn how to fold a zine here, or check Page Setup for folding instructions.

Zine mode is best for a small, intentional set. On Mac Select the 4 cards you want before printing or exporting.

Audio cards that have not been transcribed are included in print and PDF output, but they will not be useful on paper because there is no transcript text to read.
